The 2016 NASCAR season saw some great racing, especially early and late in the season. Here are 10 of the most dramatic NASCAR Premier Series races of the just-completed campaign:
5. Richmond 1
On the last corner of the last lap, Carl Edwards nerfed teammate Kyle Busch out of the way for the victory. Bet the next team meeting after the race was interesting.
Both Phoenix races were simply sensational. In the first one, Kevin Harvick edged Carl Edwards by 0.010 seconds as they traded paint on the frontstretch heading to the checkered flag, while in the second, Joey Logano won in a wild finish after leader Matt Kenseth crashed on a late-race restart.
Perfect teamwork by the five affiliated Toyotas saw Denny Hamlin edge Martin Truex Jr. by 0.010 seconds, as Toyotas swept the top three spots and four of the top five.
Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin waged an epic last-lap duel for the win on the Sonoma road course. First, Hamlin passed Stewart on the back of the track but then Stewart got him back in the last corner to scored a hugely emotional victory that got Stewart into the Chase in his last season.
Talk about an insane finish: For much of the race, it looked as though Carl Edwards would finally win his first championship. But on a restart with 10 laps to go, Edwards tried to block Joey Logano, who put him into the wall. Jimmie Johnson, who hadn’t led all race long, made the race-winning pass on a restart with three laps to go to win his record tying seventh championship.
