Judge, Stanton, Brett Gardner and Aaron Hicks can’t all play in the outfield at once, so new manager Aaron Boone is going to have to get creative.
One thing Boone has explored is the idea of Judge moving to center field. If he did this, Stanton would presumably play right field, while Gardner would play left. Hicks would then DH.
Judge has no shortage of experience in center, as he played the position in college and was drafted as one, but it remains to be seen if he can perform adequately there at the big league level.
Whichever way you slice it, the Yankees are going to be just fine. Judge and Stanton are going to be producing a lot more runs than they’ll be saving, and no outfield configuration can change that fact.
But Judge moving to center field would be wild. Perhaps crazier things have happened, but this is simply the wrong move for Aaron Boone to make.
