Conor McGregor claimed that it was going to take an army to take either of his title belts away from him after he won the lightweight title just two weeks ago. However it looks like it’s taken a lot less than that.
McGregor beat Eddie Alvarez and UFC 205 to become the first man in UFC to hold two belts at different weight divisions at the same time.
However it looks like he’ll be losing the belt at UFC 206. According to Ariel Helwani on MMA Fighting the main event at 206 is going to be Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis for the interim featherweight title.
Once that is confirmed it will mean that Jose Aldo, who currently sits as the interim champion, would become the champion outright with McGregor stripped of his belt.
McGregor hasn’t defended the 145lbs belt at all since beating Aldo nearly a year ago in just 13 seconds and has had two bouts with Nate Diaz and a title fight with Alvarez since.
The news won’t please the Notorious, especially as he beat Aldo for the belt in the first place.
UFC 206 needs a new main event after Daniel Cormier backed out of his fight with Anthony Johnson due to injury.
