Chase Elliott has been a very patient man since coming into The Monster Energy Cup Series.

Not only has the former Xfinity Series champion failed to secure a win in his first two seasons as a Cup driver, something no one saw coming when he first arrived in 2015, he has also witnessed every one of his former Xfinity Series competitors win races as well. With that being said and the dwindling list of drivers who haven’t won a race before him in mind, he’s probably tired of hearing the question of when it will be his turn.

Fortunately for The Hendrick Motorsports driver, he has a chance to turn that around Saturday night in The Coke Zero 400, a place where Chase Elliott has won the pole twice in a row and ran great at back in February. Whether he can capitalize on the success from back in February remains to be seen, but he did tell reporters on Friday what needs to happen in order for him to reach victory lane this weekend.

”When you talk about plate racing you want to be the guy that everybody wants to work with to push and help,” Elliott told reporters in the press center on Friday “If that is the case, then opportunities are going to be there that typically wouldn’t be if you were slower and couldn’t make a lane move forward.  It’s really hard to see that in practice and see who is going to be that person or what cars are going to be those cars that you want to work with. But once the race starts, it becomes apparent who those cars are and who is going to be good. It seems like people are just magically more interested in helping you and being with you when that is the case, so that is our goal.”

Whether fans want to admit it or not, it seems like Elliott is a little bitter about the way things have worked out for him during plate races lately and is letting everyone know that he has’t forgotten when others didn’t go with him in the waning laps of a restrictor plate race. Hopefully Elliott will use that information to his advantage and do whats best for him in the closing laps of the race. Either that, or continue to play Mr. Nice guy and get nowhere.
