Colin Kaepernick has just become a free agent last week, but most NFL teams are leery of taking him. They all think the same thing – bringing on a quarter back that sat out the Nation Anthem would look very bad for their team.
The 49ers have now brought on free agents Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley, and that does not look good for Kaepernick being brought back.
“The likelihood of that happening has gone down significantly, but we’re not going to close our mind or our options on anyone, including him,” John Lynch said of Kaepernick.
“He can still play at a high level,” one General Manager said, “The problem is three things are happening with him.
“First, some teams genuinely believe that he can’t play. They think he’s shot. I’d put that number around 20 percent.”
“Second, some teams fear the backlash from fans after getting him. They think there might be protests or (President) Trump will tweet about the team. I’d say that number is around 10 percent. Then there’s another 10 percent that has a mix of those feelings.”
Why don’t teams want to take this man? Last year he got a lot of bad publicity for failing to stand up for the National Anthem. The was not the only one, but he was one of the most popular ones. He received lots of negative backlash from his decision and is now facing the consequences.
“Third, the rest genuinely hate him and can’t stand what he did [kneeling for the national anthem]. They want nothing to do with him. They won’t move on. They think showing no interest is a form of punishment. I think some teams also want to use Kaepernick as a cautionary tale to stop other players in the future from doing what he did.”
We will see what happens for this man in the future. But it looks pretty grim as of right now. What do you think should happen to Kaepernick?
