When the rumours first appeared linking David Luiz to a deadline day return to Chelsea, they were dismissed as ridiculous and lazy journalism.
Fast forward to Wednesday evening, though, and the sight of the Brazilian defender posing in front of a Chelsea advertising board meant those doubters were emphatically proved wrong, as Luiz sealed a shock £30 million return to Stamford Bridge.
Considering his cult status during his first stint in west London, the centre-back’s return is sure to go down well with Chelsea fans. And now their new signing has spoken about his whirlwind transfer for the first time.
Speaking to Chelsea TV moments after his transfer from PSG had been confirmed, Luiz offered some insight into the dramatic last 24 hours, as well as his excitement at the challenge that lies ahead.
“It is fantastic to have this second opportunity to play for this club. I love this club so that is why I am here,” he said. “Let’s try to carry on the nice history…and try to get success.
