The cars aren’t even on the track for practice at New Hampshire yet and already NASCAR fans have an answer to one of this silly season’s biggest questions. The announcement came earlier today when JGR  revealed that Erik Jones would be leaving Furniture Row Racing to drive the #20 car that will be vacated by Matt Kenseth at the end of the season.  Now the question is however, who, if anyone will take over the vacated #77 car.

Unfortunately there isn’t a concrete answer to that yet and while rumors point to everyone  from Matt Kenseth to Darrell Wallace JR its likely that fans are going to have to wait a lot longer to figure that answer out.  With that being said, there is some good news to report, as Furniture Row racing has announced that they are working on plans for the #77 car next year.

“We are working on our team plans for 2018 Furniture Row Racing Team Owner, Barney Visser told reporters after the Erik Jones announcement,  but don’t have anything concrete to report at this time except that Martin Truex Jr. will continue to drive the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota.”  Of course its not a definite answer  and there is no telling if the plans will be full time or not, but its at least a little bit of a positive sign that they will continue.

“If we don’t have him, we will have somebody else … if he leaves, and I’m fairly certain he will,”  Visser said last year when the one season deal with Erik Jones was first announced. Hopefully that mantra will continue and one of NASCAR’s young stars, or wily veterans will get a chance to continue the success that Furniture Row racing has had in its time in The Cup Series.
