NASCAR Officials seized cars from six Cup Series teams after Sunday’s race at  Texas Motor speedway for inspection and while some believe the move was done due to something being found on the vehicles, NASCAR’s Vice President of Competition, Steve Miller, gave an entirely different reason for the inspection during an interview on Sirius XM’s NASCAR Radio.

“The reason that this weekend got chosen by us is, it’s early in the season, we changed the inspection process, we changed the splitter rules. Those two things we knew were going to have an effect on the aerodynamic properties of all of the manufacturers’ cars,”  Scott Miller said Monday morning on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “Now that we’ve raced a few times, we’ve seen what the racing looks like, we figured it was time for us to sort of fingerprint the cars. We want to just understand as a sport where we are, to get data where we are on downforce levels and evaluate our product.”

Jamie McMurray, Chase Eliott, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Kyle Busch and Erik Jones all had their cars taken by NASCAR after the Sunday’s race at Texas at Texas for wind tunnel tests. NASCAR officials also announced that the move was done in order to study each manufactor and where they were at this season.
