Colin Kaepernick has been in the news for the past couple of years for his decision to kneel during the national anthem. This has started somewhat of a knee-jerk reaction from players around the league. Now we are seeing more and more and more players start to follow in the footsteps of Kaepernick.
As a result, the NFL has been seeing its ratings go down the drain. Many people around the league tend to believe that this is because of the negative press that it has been receiving since these protests first broke out. It started with one person. Now it has grown to multiple teams. And it will continue to grow until the NFL decides to do something about it.
Colin has now met with Shaun King, a Black Lives Matter leader and an activist, and said that he is ready to get back out on the field. It is far too late for that. “I’ve never stopped. I’m ready right now. Working out daily.”
Recently, Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner, has come out talking about Colin and his hunt for a job.
“I want to see everyone get an opportunity, including Colin, but those decisions are made by football people.”
“When teams have a need and teams feel like they can get better by a particular individual, whether they know the system, or whether they have more talent, or whatever it may be, that’s what they do. And I’m still convinced that he’ll get that opportunity when the right opportunity comes along. That’s what our league’s all about.”
Teams in the NFL have been doing anything they can to keep Colin out of a job. We can act like it does not have anything to do with the protests all we want. But when you get down to it, these teams are not going to bring in a guy that will come with previous baggage. And Colin has a lot of it.
