Kevin Harvick has had a pretty amazing NASCAR career up until now and while his chances of being a championship contender might look bleak right now, that still apparently isn’t enough to get the former Cup Series champion from retiring in 2020.
Unfortunatley for those thinking that he will replace Darrell Waltrip in the booth next season, which would arguebly one of the biggest booth shake ups in the networks history, it appears that Harvick isn’t done just yet and even plans to compete past 2021!
“I feel fairly confident that being part of the TV side of things is something that I want to do in the future. Harvick said when asked about the possibility of him replacing Waltrip in the booth, ” But it’s not going to happen in the next couple of years, I can tell you that,”
His statement comes after a tweet by Darrell Waltrip in January spurned rumors that he would be exiting the broadcast booth at the end of the 2019 season. If true, the move ends Waltrip’s 19 year career in the booth for Fox Sports and would be a huge to lose his fans .
With that being said, a lot of people thought Harvick would take over the role due to his age, his time in the sport and everything he has accomplished so far. Then again, no one even officially knows if Waltrip is retiring yet or not, so who knows if there is even a spot to fill?
In the end, if this really is Darrell Waltrip’s last season in the broadcast booth, it will be disappointing to see him go after knowing what he is still capable of up in the booth. The man just symbolizes everything that NASCAR was back in the day and to lose it, would be to lose something extremely special.
