Three time NBA Champion, Lebron James answered questions during a press conference regarding Race in America and while he had nothing but praise for Civil Rights leader, Dr Martin Luther King Jr , he didn’t have very kind words for President Donald Trump, Of course a lot of athletes have come out against Trump after his son of a bitch comments a couple of months ago at an Alabama rally, but these comments came on MLK day.
Not only that, Lebron James comments, which involve him calling The President, divisive and stupid, comes only a few days after Donald Trump was accused of using a derogatory word to describe African nations during an immigration meeting with lawmakers. Trump later admitted in a tweet that the words he used were tough, but he did not use the language that he was accused of .
Trump was later asked by a reporter during a press conference if he was racist or not and responded by saying that he was the least racist person the reporter had ever interviewed. Unfortunately for Donald Trump, who was trashed in the media for not doing any volunteer work or attending any memorials in Martin Luther Kings honor, King James didn’t seem to believe him and choose to take several shots at the president during the press conference.
“We are in a difficult state right now as Americans, with the leader of our country,” James stated during the conference, . “We all have to continue to come together and shine a brighter light on — I don’t want to use the word stupidity, but that’s basically what it comes down to.”
“The guy in control has given people and racism, and negative racism, an opportunity to be out and outspoken without fear. And that’s the fearful thing for us because it’s with you, and it’s around every day, but he’s allowed people to come out and just feel confident about doing negative things,” James later stated. “We can’t allow that to stop us from continuing to be together and preach the right word of living and loving and laughing and things of that nature. Because would we want to live anywhere else? I don’t think so. We love this place.”
This isn’t the first time Lebron James has come out against Donald Trump, as he also called the current president of The United States a ,”bum,” for dishonoring Golden State Warriors player, Steph Curry. In the end, athletes and Trump have had a volatile history during Trump’s time as president and while some might think Jame’s statements are correct and valid, one has to wonder why James would use Martin Luther King day to state them?
That’s not to say that racism isn’t a problem anymore, or that James’s words don’t have any validity to them, but why would James talk about Trump’s supposed racism on the same day that we are supposed to be celebrating one of the greatest civil rights leaders of all time. With that being said, it almost seems like a coordinated attack on The President, especially after his alleged comments only a few days earlier.
