The Yorkshire giants revealed on their official website and social media channels that Sarkic, 20, will link up with the club on a deal until the end of December.

It is said that Sarkic will immediately join up with Carlos Corberan’s Under-23 side.

In an overhaul that has mirrored the massive revamp of Leeds’ senior squad, the Montenegro youth international will become the latest in a long line of additions to the club’s Under-23s.

The forward, 20, underwent a trial at Premier League outfit Swansea earlier this summer and was selected for two matches on their Under-23s tour of Northern Ireland.

But a deal collapsed and Leeds have taken advantage of Sarkic’s desire to move back to England.

The youngster, who was born in England but is a Montenegro Under-21 international, began his career with Anderlecht before joining Benfica in 2014.

He is a regular for the Portugese giants’ reserves side and has yet to make a senior appearance, although he scored three goals in six matches for the club in the UEFA Youth League at under-19 level, scoring three goals.

Benfica sent him on loan to fellow Portuguese club Fafe during the second half of last season and have now sanctioned a spell at Leeds.
