Manchester United appear to have been dealt a serious blow in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid and France striker Antoine Griezmann.

For much of 2017, reports have emerged suggesting Manchester United will pay Griezmann’s release clause (86 million pounds) at Atletico Madrid this summer.

United have reportedly held talks with Griezmann’s representatives and are very keen to sign the French striker.

However it looks like Diego Simeone has managed to convince Griezmann to stay at Atletico.

Besides Atletico’s new stadium, which is a great draw for any player or to hold onto their stars, Simeone is also bringing in Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.

Ghazi adds that Griezmann was already keen to stay at Atletico, but Lacazette’s arrival “only reinforces this idea.”

Besides the information from L’Equipe, Griezmann has also told Spanish radio in recent days that he is happy at Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann told Cadena Ser: “I am very comfortable here and now have to meet my representative with Miguel Angel Gil Marin and see what happens. You have to talk about yourself.”

The former Real Sociedad attacker adds: “I follow because I am happy. If I am happy in my personal life I will be happy in the professional. I love Simeone and I love my mates. I’m still as happy as the first day I introduced myself. I wish I could continue to enjoy my private and sports life.”
