According to a report today from Diario Gol, Lionel Messi wants Barcelona to secure five summer signings before putting pen to paper on a new contract with the Liga side.

Multiple sources in Spain have suggested that the 5-time Ballon D’Or winner has been offered a 5-year deal worth up to a staggering 30 million Euro per season by his current employers.

However, following a disappointing season for the Nou Camp side, with the only realistic chance of silverware looking to be their upcoming Copa Del Rey final with Alaves, Messi has demanded that the Catalunyan club show their intent for next season by agreeing deals for 5 players.

According to the report, the Argentinian would like to see:

‘a centre-back, right-back, a midfielder to replace [Andres] Iniesta, a forward and another forward for the bench.

While Barcelona are certainly in need of an influx of fresh talent, as evidenced by their comprehensive defeat at the hands of Juventus in this season’s Champions League, the majority of experts in Spain feel that it is more a case of when Messi signs his new contract, rather than a case of if.
