“Carlos Beltran isn’t planning on retiring and wants to return to the Rangers according to TR Sullivan of The 39-year old switch-hitting outfielder is eligible for free agency having just completed his three-year deal originally signed with the Yankees.

Prior to this season, it appeared Beltran was entering a sharp decline in productivity. In 2014, Beltran was below replacement level with the Yankees, and hit three percent below the league average by wRC+. A bounce-back campaign in 2015, and an even better 2016 helped to rehabilitate his major league value. John Farrell will be the Red Sox skipper come the 2017 season. While this seems like a “duh” moment, his position as manager wasn’t so certain.

“Red Sox manager John Farrell will return for the 2017 season per an announcement from the team’s president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.

At 93-69, having just won the division, this news from the Red Sox seems somewhat non-revelatory. However, Farrell’s job was in jeopardy throughout the 2016 season, and getting swept by Cleveland in the ALDS couldn’t have helped.”

Speaking of job security…the Padres has split with president Mike Dee. In all fairness, I wouldn’t want to have Mike Dee’s job either.

“The Padres have parted ways with president and CEO Mike Dee, according to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune. No reason was given for the decision.

Lin adds that Dee’s departure is not related to the 30-day suspension of general manager A.J. Preller, and that Preller is expected to stay with the club once he returns from his suspension next week.”
