While young guns like Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Daniel Suarez Erik Jones and Austin Dillon are all making names for themselves in The Cup Series, and many more are on the way to carve out their piece of NASCAR history, its hard not to long for the days when the likes of Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Dale Earnhardt fought it out on the track for the championship every year.

Of course drivers move on and eventually hang up their driver suit for the last time, but fans still seem to wait in earnest for them to announce some kind of comeback. Fortunately for fans of three time Cup Series champion, Tony Stewart, he has announced his interest in competing in a road course race next season, which would be his first return to a stock car in over year

There are actually some road course races that I might be interested in running, Stewart told reporters and his new Cup Series driver, Aric Almirola, during a press conference,” We’ve actually discussed it in-house here, but we don’t have anything near worth announcing by any means, but there are some really cool races, especially Charlotte having a road course race next year. I mean, there might be some opportunities that might be a little bit fun for me to come out and dust things off a little bit.”

Its worth mentioning that there are four Road course races in The Xfinity Series schedule and that includes the new Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway. While its not known which race or how many of those races he would be competing in, the prospect of Stewart returning to the sport in any driving capacity is must see TV for NASCAR and a chance to see something truly special.

Whether it happens or not, is up to Stewart, his team and his desires, but hopefully Stewart will be able to make one comeback before officially hanging up the helmet for good. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below and tell us what races you would like to see Stewart run!
