New Orleans Pelicans All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for “directing inappropriate language towards fans on separate occasions,” the league announced Thursday.
According to the league, the incidents occurred during the Pelicans’ victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday and after their loss to the Utah Jazz on Monday.
Lakers fans recorded themselves heckling Cousins ahead of his vulgar outburst during Sunday’s game. The next night, following the game against Utah, Cousins had a profane interaction with one fan captured on video.
Cousins, who was traded to the Pelicans from the Sacramento Kings on Feb. 19, also leads the NBA in technical fouls with 18 and has already been suspended twice this season. Per NBA rules, a player is automatically suspended one game without pay after he reaches 16 technical fouls during the regular season. For every two technical fouls after No. 16, the player is suspended an additional game.
