The Phillies have gone through a dismal 2017 campaign, recording an MLB-worst 51-83 record as we enter the final month of the regular season.
While most baseball minds were focused elsewhere, the Phillies have made a solid waiver claim, adding ex-Cardinals reliever Kevin Siegrist off waivers.
In order to finalize the move, hurler Jerad Eickhoff has been placed on the 60-day DL.
Siegrist has struggled in 2017, recording a 4.98 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP in just 34.1 innings pitched. The 28-year-old was considered an elite reliever just a few seasons ago, making 81 relief appearances for the Cardinals in 2015 while boasting a 2.17 ERA.
The Phillies have added a solid relief pitcher with a decent amount of experience as they try to rebuild their roster. The move won’t have an impact on their season in 2017, but Siegrist could be a useful veteran in Philadelphia for the future.
