San Francisco 49ers been interested in Odell Beckham Jr. trade ‘for nearly a year’

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the San Francisco 49ers ‘have had real interest’ in acquiring Odell Beckham ‘for nearly a year’ now.

He also reported that the Los Angeles Rams had interest last year in trading for Beckham, but instead made a deal for Brandin Cooks with the Patriots.

If they wanted to renew their interest this offseason, Florio has suggested the Rams could offer someone like Robert Woods to the Giants as part of the package.

It might be odd for New York to trade Beckham away this offseason since they only offered him a huge contract extension last summer.

However, it’s well known that Odell has annoyed the Giants’ coaching staff in the past with his off-field chatter and open criticism at times of the team’s play-calling.

There’s also no smoke without fire, so it will be interesting to see how this story develops.

The 49ers have already been heavily linked to another wide receiver this offseason in the unsettled Pittsburgh Steelers star Antonio Brown.

Both Beckham and Brown would drastically improve the Niners at wide receiver and be a true number one for their quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo.

However, at this stage of their careers, Beckham is the more valuable receiver than Brown, and therefore could be more difficult for the 49ers to land in a trade.

San Francisco needs a star at wideout in order to battle against the Rams and the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West next season. Both Beckham and Brown would fit the bill perfectly.
