Brazilian side Chapecoense – as well as 21 journalists – were travelling to Colombia to face Atletico Nacional in the Copa Sudamericana final when electrical problems struck.

The harrowing last words of pilot Quiroga have now come to light after Juan Sebastian Upegui, who was flying nearby at the time, revealed how he heard the conversation with air traffic control.

According to Upegui, per the Mirror, Quiroga begged officials to “help us” and said “we’re going down” before it was too late.

Please be warned, the below transcript is a distressing read.

“The GPS isn’t working, I don’t know what’s happening. We have total electronic failure, total electronic failure. Vector to proceed for landing!

“Now I don’t have radar contact. Vector to proceed for landing! Vector to proceed for landing!

“We’re going down. Help us! Give us the vectors for the runway! Vectors for the runway! We’re at 1,000 feet!”

Communication then stopped. Images have since emerged of Quiroga and the flight crew with Chapecoense’s players.
