The Detroit Red Wings will be one of the biggest sellers at the NHL trade deadline. They have several intriguing pieces. It’s quite likely the Red Wings will look very different after the deadline. Their best trade asset is defenseman Mike Green, who will be a free agent after this season.
San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks are currently in a dogfight for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. This might well be their best chance to win a Stanley Cup for a while, especially with Joe Thornton’s future with the team in question. The Sharks would be wise to go all-in this year.
Los Angeles Kings
The Los Angeles Kings, much like the Sharks, already have impressive defensive depth. Especially on the right side, where they boast Drew Doughty and Alec Martinez. This duo gobbles up a ton of minutes against tough competition. But the Kings have been adopting a sixth defenseman by committee approach, alternating between Christian Folin and Oscar Fantenberg.
New York Islanders
The New York Islanders should be kicking the tires on any defenseman who’s available and has a pulse. Unless something has drastically changed, Mike Green is both available and the owner of a pulse. Therefore, the Islanders should at least express interest in him.
The Washington Capitals could really use Mike Green right about now. Their third pairing has been struggling. While Madison Bowey has been doing better as of late, they could use someone like Green to help jumpstart things.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Mike Green would be a perfect fit for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Despite having an extremely impressive core of forwards, the Leafs don’t have many defensemen who can take advantage of them. Green would look great making stretch passes up the ice to them.
