This Week In NFL: Dennis Green Passing, Le’Veon Bell Suspension, JJ Watt Injury

Training camp is only a few short days away and the NFL preseason is not far behind. A return to football is getting closer with each passing day.

Former NFL Head Coach Dennis Green Passes Away

Former Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green, 67, passed away Thursday night from complications of cardiac arrest, according to his family. The NFL community was saddened by the news of his death and many posted their reactions.

“Denny Green, for all the years that I’ve been in this business, is the best coach I’ve ever been around or known with regards to an eye for talent,” former NFL coach Brian Billick said on NFL Network. “Whether it was the draft, whether it was free agency, whether it was getting the most out of the players that you had.”

Le’Veon Bell Facing 4-Game Suspension

Pittsburgh Steelers running back and fantasy powerhouse Le’Veon Bellis facing a four-game suspension for missing several drug testsaccording to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. This isn’t Bell’s first strike. Last year, Bell was suspended for violating the league’s policy on substances of abuse and was was arrested in 2014 for possession of marijuana and a DUI.

If the Steelers don’t address the void of Bell’s suspension in free agency, it is likely they will turn to DeAngelo Williams who was productive in a similar situation last year.

  • Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice vows to donate his salary if he is signed by an NFL team.
  • Indianapolis Colts Arthur Jones suspended 4-games for PED violation, per reports.

DiMoro’s Call: This is a major blow to the Houston Texans and one that will be hard to recover from. Regardless of which report you choose to base your personal expectations regarding Watt’s return, this will be a long and hard road for the Texans to navigate through.

With a new quarterback in the fold, Houston needed it’s unquestioned leader and best overall player to help the team get in sync. It’s tough to tell when Watt will return to the field but I would place my money on late in the season, if he returns this season at all.
