The 2018 season is finally over and while some fans aren’t exactly thrilled that Joey Logano is The reigning Cup Series champion, it sure beats some of the other stuff that happened throughout the year. of course , it wasn’t all bad and the sport had some pretty good moments as well, which pretty much made the season a mixed bag of sorts. With that being said and NASCAR both propelling forward and spiraling backwards in 2018, what were the best and worst moments?
As always, let us know in the comments below and be sure to tell us what you think the best and worst moments were of the 2018 season. While we will do our best to cover all the top moments of the 2018 season, please remember that there are some moments that might be lost in the shuffle. Now this doesn’t mean they aren’t important or that they didn’t push NASCAR forward or backwards, it’s just an opinion that these other ones did in a much bigger way
Denny Hamlin Adderall joke
During a radio interview with Barstool sports, Denny Hamlin was asked about whether drivers took
Interestingly enough, the adderal comment was brought up again during a post race interview with Darrel Wallace, who had just had an on track incident with Denny Hamlin. Wallace Jr claimed after the wreck that Hamlin just needed to take some adderall, which angered Hamlin and caused him to tweet about the comment. In the end, Wallace Jr wasn’t talked to about the incident by NASCAR, which seems like a bit of a double standard, but its understandable that Wallace Jr was just caught up in the moment.
Kevin Harvick’s cheating
Believe it or not, Kevin Harvick’s team was caught cheating twice this season and still almost managed to win The Cup Series title! Not only did this give the sport a lot of negative publicity going forward, especially since the first happened so early on in the season, and Kevin Harvick taunting fans over the incident a week later at Phoenix didn’t make thing better. With that being said, Harvick’s team was also caught cheating in the playoffs at Texas, which forced the sport to encumber his win.
In the end, it wasn’t a good look for the sport and Harvick’s
Big three media coverage
Big three this and big three that! It honestly seemed like you couldn’t go a single week without hearing about the big three and it just drove some fans crazy. What made the situation even worse was the fact that the big three’s domination was happening during the time that NASCAR was promising a youth movement in the sport, which never exactly happened. In fact, there was only one first time winner in 2018 and the big three ended up winning 20 races when all was said and done.
Maybe it was just the saltiness that the young guns weren’t winning that tainted the constant wins of the big three, but it wasn’t always enjoyable to watch
Brian France arrest
That had to be what NASCAR fans were thinking after NASCAR president and CEO, Brian France was caught driving while intoxicated and
Brian France posted bail the next morning and announced that he would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the sport after the incident. In the end, this was a huge black mark on the sport and only worsened fans opinions of him. Fortunately it most likely also forced France out of power for good, which could be a good thing after how long it has seemingly been driven into the ground.
Martin Truex Jr whining
There was just something about the way that Martin Truex Jr whined to reporters after being outraced by Joey Logano at Martinsville that made him unlikable. Maybe it was just how Martin Truex Jr labeled the move dirty and threatened to get payback on Logano, but it just left a bad taste in a lot of fans mouths. It also made some question what kind of competitor that Truex Jr was, especially after how inspirational he has been to fans at times and it only worsened his image in the process.
In the end, fans shoudl probably forgive Truex Jr’s little meltdown and chalk it up to just being emotional in the moment, but it hard to do that when it came from someone that is usually such a honorable competitor. Think about it! If it was Kyle Busch or any other driver that usually whines about that kind of stuff, it wouldn’t be out of place, but for Truex, it was different. It was a guy not being grateful for a long fought out battle for the win and wanting to cost the man a championship over it.
