The first goal of the 2015-16 Bundesliga season might even be the best goal of the entire season.
Xavi Alonso got the Carlo Ancelotti era off to a stunning start with a 25-yard volley for Bayern Munich in their game against Werder Bremen.
The Spaniard’s goal came in the ninth minute. By 13 minutes gone it was 2-0, Robert Lewandoski opening his account with a fine effort from an acute angle.
The aim for Bayern is, of course, Champions League success. Pep Guardiola wasn’t able to bring the big-eared trophy to the Allianz Arena but the early signs are that this Bayern team is ready to go all the way in Europe.
If, however, the season doesn’t end in Champions League glory, at least Alonso will have his opening-day screamer as a highlight.
